Queen Underwood (born May 8, 1984 ) is an American boxer . She won a bronze medal in the lightweight at the 2010 World Championships .

Career

Queen Underwood didn't start boxing until she was 19 in 2003. Before that, she did athletics and played basketball . She belongs to the boxing club Cappy's Boxing Club and Gym Seattle , WA . Your trainer is Cappy Kotz.

In 2007 she became the first US American light welterweight champion (weight class up to 63 kg body weight) with victories over Ishika Lay and Christina Reddick. In the same year she started in the same weight class at the Pan American Championships in Durán / Ecuador , where she finished third with a victory over Nadja Ballot, Guatemala and after a point defeat against Katie Dunn from Canada (10:20). In 2008, Queen Underwood was again US champion. In the final she defeated Wendy Casey on points (12: 9). At the Pan American Championships in 2008 in Port of Spain on Trinidad and Tobago , she reached the final, in which she lost again against Katie Dunn from Canada on points (5:16). In order to become American champion in 2010, Queen Underwood needed four wins in Colorado Springs . It started for the first time in the lightweight category (weight class up to 60 kg body weight). In the final she defeated Patricia Manuel on points (9: 5). But more remarkable was her victory in the semifinals over the multiple American champion Caroline Barry (16: 9). She then fought brilliantly at the 2010 World Cup in Bridgeport / Barbados . She defeated the lightweight Mawzuna Tschorajewa from Tajikistan (+7: 7), Supaporn Srisondee from Thailand and Denis Jelisejewa from Bulgaria (6: 3) on points and only lost to multiple world champion Katie Taylor from Ireland just in the semifinals (16:18) Points. With a little more international experience, she could even have won this fight. It had a negative impact that US female boxers did not take part in any international tournaments in Europe .

In November 2010, Queen Underwood started at the 1st Women's Intern. Dual Series in Oxnard / USA and won there in the lightweight over Mercedesz Pikacs, Hungary by breaking off in the 3rd round and over Debbie Richards from Canada on points (24: 4). A winner was not determined at this event.

In 2012, Queen Underwood retired from both the World Championships in Qinhuangdao, China and the Olympic Games in London prematurely due to defeats in the round of 16 and thus finished 9th.
