Mike Barone

Mike Barone (born December 27, 1936 in Detroit ) is an American jazz trombonist, band leader, arranger and composer.

Mike Barone is the son of big band musician Joe Barone who worked for Bob Crosby . He played in the mid-1960s with Oliver Nelson ( Sound Pieces , 1966) and in the backing band of the singer Johnny Hartman ( Unforgettable , 1966). As early as 1968 he appeared with his own band, in which musicians such as Jack Nimitz , Mike Wofford and John Guerin played, at the Donte's jazz club . In the 1970s he had a band in California with his brother, trumpeter Gary Barone . The drummer Shelly Manne also played in this band . In 1979 the album Blues and Other Happy Moments was released on Palo Alto Records . Barone also played in Louie Bellson's Big Band, with Pearl Bailey and Gerald Wilson . Since the 1990s Barone has been working with his own big band, in which u. a. Ernie Watts plays. Barone also works with Bud Shank . Between 2001 and 2005, Barone wrote the music for shows for the Academy Awards .
