Charles Michael "Mike" Magill (born February 8, 1920 in Haddonfield , New Jersey ; † August 31, 2006 there ) was an American racing driver .
Career
After World War II , Magill began his racing career in 1955 in the AAA National series . Up until 1959 he started 15 times in the series. His best result was fourth in the 1955 Langhorne race.
In 1957 he made his debut at the Indianapolis 500 . Juan Manuel Fangio was supposed to control the Kurtis Kraft , but contract problems prevented the five-time Formula 1 world champion from starting . Magill took over the vehicle and, after an accident on the first lap, had to spend over an hour in the pits to have the car repaired. He finished 17th in the race. His last start in Indianapolis was in 1959.
Since the 500-mile race was part of the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960, Magill has three race starts in the statistics. He could not achieve points for the world championship.
