Michael "Mike" Mitchell (born April 4, 1967 ) is a retired American / Irish basketball player .

career

Mitchell played and studied from 1985 to 1988, first at Fresno State University in his home country, USA, from 1988 to 1990 then at Colorado State University . His best season at Fresno State was the game year 1987/88, in which he posted averages of 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds. After moving to Colorado State, the 2.02-meter-tall winger initially sat out for a year, in the 1989/90 season Mitchell was with a points average of 19.5 leading players on his team.

As a professional, Mitchell first played in the 1990s for the Australian teams Gold Coast Rollers (1991 to 1994), Brisbane Bullets (1995 to 1996) and North Melbourne Giants (1997). In the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons he was under contract with the German Bundesliga club Tatami Rhöndorf . In the 1999/2000 season he strengthened the French first division club Besancon, in 2000 he moved back to the Bundesliga and played for Avitos Gießen , where he spent the last few years of his career. In Giessen he became team captain and was one of the top performers without restriction.

In 2005 he ended his professional career after sustaining a shoulder injury during the 2003/04 season that prevented him from continuing his career.

Mitchell, who is an Irish citizen, has played for the Irish national team during his career.

After the end of his playing time, Mitchell worked as a coach, among other things. Among other things, he supervised student teams and was an assistant coach at the University of California, Riverside and at the WNBA club Chicago Sky .
