Mikele Leigertwood (born November 12, 1982 in Enfield , London ) is an England- born football player who played for the Antigua and Barbuda national team from 2008 to 2012 .
Club career
Leigertwood began his career with the Milton Keynes Dons and Wimbledon FC , he made his professional debut while on loan at Leyton Orient . In January 2004 he moved to Crystal Palace for £ 155,000 . In the 2004/05 season he made 23 appearances for Palace, his first goal for the club he scored against Tottenham Hotspur . After the relegation of Crystal Palace from the Premier League , he joined Sheffield United , where Leigertwood signed a three-year deal. Sheffield United paid £ 600,000 in transfer fees. In the summer of 2007, the Queens Park Rangers bought it for £ 900,000. In November 2010 Leigertwood was awarded to the league competitor Reading FC until the end of the season, with whom he signed a long-term contract for three years in May 2011. There he ended his active career after the end of the summer of 2014.
National team
Willie Donachie , the then coach of the Antigua and Barbuda national team , tried to invite Leigertwood to the squad for the 2010 World Cup qualification to play a few consecutive international matches. But this was prevented because he was invited to a wedding as a guest. However, Leigertwood was later given the chance to play in the national team when he received a red card in a league game against Birmingham City and was able to play international games within the ban. Leigertwood made his debut in a 3-2 loss to Trinidad and Tobago and scored his first goal against Guyana .
