Mikołaj z Chrzanowa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mikołaj z Chrzanowa (* around 1485 in Chrzanów , † 1562 in Kraków ) was a Polish organist and composer .

Mikołaj z Chrzanowa studied from 1507 at the Cracow University and received a bachelor's degree here in 1513 . From 1518 until his death he was organist and choirmaster at Wawel Cathedral . It is believed that Mikołaj Gantkowicz and Mikołaj Bętkowski , who are mentioned (for 1520–21 and 1550 respectively) as Wawel organists, are identical with him. From 1546 he was also a clavichord player at the court of King Sigismund II August . Only the four-part motet Protexisti me Deus has survived from his works . It is an organ arrangement, provided with the signature N. Ch., In the tablature of Jan z Lublina .
