Bernd Raue

Bernd "Atze" Raue (born December 8, 1948 in Berlin ) is a former East German table tennis player and trainer. He won numerous titles at GDR championships in the 1970s and 1980s and achieved successes over world and European rankings at international tournaments in the Eastern Bloc.

Career

The defender Bernd Raue played from 1965 to 1968 for the club Berliner TSC and then together with his older brother Ronald at BSG Außenhandel Berlin . With the men's team he was from 1970 to 1982 - with the exception of 1976 - GDR champion. BSG Stahl Finow only won the title in 1976 . In 1984 he switched to Post Berlin.

At the individual championships of the GDR he won a total of 17 titles:

  • Four in a row: 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977
  • Eight in doubles: 1973 (with Ronald Raue), 1975 (with Peter Fähnrich ), 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 (with Dieter Stöckel ), 1984 (with Mike Scheweleit )
  • Five in the mixed: 1971, 1973, 1976 (with Gabriele Geißler ), 1981 (with Rita Schröder), 1982 (with Anka Schöler)

In 1975 he led the DTTV rankings.

Internationally, Raue was used at international championships in countries of the Eastern Bloc as well as in Sweden, Finland and Yugoslavia. He was not nominated for European championships. He was nominated for the 1969 World Championships in Munich. This nomination was withdrawn at short notice for the entire men's squad from the GDR's DTTV. The DTTV took part in the competitions with a women's team. On September 1, 1975, Bernd Raue became the trainer of the GDR table tennis association .

In September 1987 Raue visited relatives in the Federal Republic and did not return to the GDR. He first joined the Bundesliga club Spvg Steinhagen and worked here as a coach. In 1990 he moved to DJK Rheintreu Bockum (today TSV Bockum), whose men's team took part in the district class at the time and later played in the association, major league and second division for two years and which became German senior team champions in 1992, 1995 and 1999. Raue still plays in Bockum today (2011).

In 2000 he became German senior champion in the age group over 50. In the 1990s he worked as a trainer at the German Table Tennis Center DTTZ in Heidelberg.

Private

Raue is a qualified sports teacher. He is married to the Willich qualified sports teacher and former German swimming champion, Iris Pempelfort.
