Dieter Stöckel

Dieter Stöckel (born September 6, 1945 in Sorgau ) is a former East German table tennis player .

Career

In 1957, Stöckel became a member of the SG Elektronik Gornsdorf club, which was then playing in the GDR major league. Even today (2017) he is active in the top division of this club, which is now called TSV Elektronik Gornsdorf. In the 1970s and 1980s, Stöckel was one of the best table tennis players in the GDR. He played about 80 international matches.

At the GDR championships he won four titles in singles and four in doubles. Four times he reached the final:

  • 1975 Mixed final with Carla Strauss
  • 1978 final in singles, victory in doubles with Bernd Raue
  • 1979 victory in singles, victory in doubles with Bernd Raue, final in mixed with Carla Strauss
  • 1980 victory in singles, victory in doubles with Bernd Raue
  • 1981 victory in singles, victory in doubles with Bernd Raue
  • 1982 victory in doubles with Bernd Raue
  • 1983 final in doubles with Wolfgang Viebig
  • 1984 victory in singles, final in doubles with Siegbert Decker

With the men's team from BSG Elektronik Gornsdorf, he was GDR champion in 1985, 1986 and 1990.

For his services, Stöckel was awarded the title of Master of Sports .

Private

After studying mechanical engineering, Stöckel worked as an engineer for special mechanical engineering. He is married.
