Carla Strauss
Carla Strauss (born February 28, 1944 - † February 18, 2016 ) was a German table tennis player . She won the GDR championship twice. She also became senior world champion in doubles.
Achievements adults
In the 1960s, Strauss played for SC Motor Jena . During this time she achieved several successes in doubles with Elke Richter (later Elke Hamel). With her she won the GDR championship in 1964 and 1965 , in 1963 and 1966 they were in the final. Further top placements came in the 1970s:
- 1974: Second in doubles with Gabriele Geißler
- 1975: Second in mixed with Dieter Stöckel
- 1978: Second in doubles with Rita Schröder
- 1979: Second in mixed with Dieter Stöckel
- 1980: Second in doubles with Diane Rösler
In 1965 Strauss was nominated for the world championship . Here she won the singles against Marie-France Petre (Belgium) and Vera Arslanagic (Yugoslavia) and then eliminated against the Japanese Naoko Fukazu . In doubles with Elke Richter , she went two rounds through victories over Eva Banhidy / Christine Shepherd (Australia) and Eleonora Vlaicov / Viorica Ivan (Romania). Then they were defeated by Chou Li-ling / Chou Paochin (China). She lost the mixed with Peter Fähnrich in the first round against Eberhard Schöler / Agnes Simon (Germany). With the GDR women's team, she reached tenth place.
In 1972 Strauss played for the association progress Thalheim, around 1988 for Motor Zwönitz, in the 1990s for SG Aufbau Chemnitz and from 2012 again in Thalheim for SV Tanne Thalheim .
Senior sport
Strauss took part in numerous national and international senior tournaments. Here she regularly played doubles with her former partner Elke Hamel (formerly Elke Richter). With her she won the European Senior Championship in 1995 in the age group over 50. A year later they became senior world champions. Other medals:
- 2003: German championship over 50: win the double
- 2004: European Championship 60+: Third place in doubles, second place in mixed with Gerhard Lenzer
- 2005: European Championship 60+: Third place in doubles
