Elke Richter (table tennis player)

Elke Richter (born April 4, 1944 in Wollstein , Reichsgau Wartheland ) is a German table tennis player . She was one of the best players in the GDR in the 1960s and won three national titles.

successes

Richter achieved his first successes in doubles at the Youth GDR Championships in 1955. In 1965 she and Carla Strauss became GDR doubles champion. With Siegfried Lemke she won the mixed title in 1966 and 1967. In 1966 she was GDR runner-up in the individual. In addition, she reached the final eight times in doubles (with Carla Strauss and Petra Stephan ) or mixed (with Wolfgang Viebig ).

Internationally, Richter was used at the European Championships in 1964 and 1966 and at the World Championships in 1965 and 1967 . From 1964 to 1969 she was nominated for 37 GDR internationals.

In the mid-1970s she trained the team from BSG Lok Leipzig Mitte and was the chairwoman of the youth development work group in the GDR table tennis association DTTV .

Senior tournaments

After her marriage she performed under the name Elke Hamel . She still played successfully in national and international senior tournaments. With Carla Strauss , she became European champion in 1996 and 1996 world champion in doubles in the 50+ class. Most recently she reached the mixed final at the German Senior Individual Championships 2009 in Koblenz. In 2010 she became vice world champion in doubles over 65s with Swetlana Fyodorova .

Hamel belonged to the associations TTV Domstadt Naumburg 75, SG Aufbau Chemnitz (until 2007), SV Rotation Süd Leipzig (2007–2009), TTC Halle (2009–2013) and the Freyburger TTV (from 2013).
