Can't Slow Down is Lionel Richie's second studio album , released on Motown on October 11, 1983 , and topped the Billboard 200 on December 3, 1983 . The album stayed in the US album charts for more than two years at 131 weeks. Ten platinum records from the American RIAA, 3 platinum records from the British BPI and a gold record from the German BMI indicate that around 20 million records have been sold for the album. Can't Slow Down received the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1984, and Richie and Carmichael received the Grammy for Producer of the Year for a non-classical work. Five of the eight titles were released as singles and were internationally successful hits.
history
With James Anthony Carmichael , Richie engaged the successful Motown producer for the album, who had already produced numerous hit albums for Thelma Houston , the Temptations and the Commodores .
Stylistically, the album contains world music influences as well as many ballads . The compositions were explicitly produced for the musical taste of the “ adult contemporary ” target group , as Steven Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic notes. Erlewine thinks it is quite possible that Richie adopted this style from Jackson's thriller . All five singles released reached the top ten charts on the Billboard Hot 100 . Four of the five decoupled singles also made it to the top of the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts, only Running With the Night stayed at the top of the chart at number 6. Richie was very involved in the songwriting of all the songs on the album .
The album probably sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The sales resulted in ten RIAA platinum records, three BPI platinum records and one BMI gold record. Can't Slow Down is probably one of the 100 best-selling music albums worldwide.
The bonus track Love Will Find a Way was sampled by Tha Dogg Pound for her song I Don't Like to Dream About Gettin 'Paid .
In the episode, Stewie Lois kills from Family Guy gave Peter Lois album on her birthday. In a cutscene Peter heard the song Hello .

reception
Allmusic's critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine rated the album four and a half stars out of five. Unfortunately, the album only has a short running time (like many albums from the early 1980s), but it contains, in addition to the five hits, songs like Love Will Find a Way , which seemed a little tiring, but that is insignificant. Ritchie highlighted all five hits as well as the album as a whole.
