history
The distinctive electric guitar solo was played by Steve Lukather , a member of the band Toto . Lukather explained in an interview that this is a so-called "Take Zero" and that he only warmed up for the actual recording. When he wanted to play the actual take afterwards, Richie told him from the off that it had already been recorded and was perfect. The background vocals come from Richard Marx , who also took over the background vocals for All Night Long (All Night) and You Are .
The song is 6:02 minutes long and was released as the second single from the album Can't Slow Down . On the B-side is the song Serves You Right .
Music video
The music video was directed by Bob Giraldi , who also directed Hello and Penny Lover . At the beginning of the video, Lionel Richie bursts into a wedding with some friends and practices a choreography .
