Petra Stephan
Petra Stephan married Schmidt (born February 17, 1954 ) is a former German table tennis player . She won the GDR championship thirteen times.
Career
Stephan represented the GDR several times at European youth championships and won several titles. In 1966 she was European student champion in individual. Two years later she won the doubles title with Eva Löffler at the European Youth Championships , and silver in mixed with Norbert Drescher . In 1970 and 1972 she made it to the semi-finals in doubles.
At the GDR championships she won thirteen titles, four times in singles, five times in doubles and four times in mixed. She was also in the final fourteen times.

With BSG Lokomotive Leipzig-Mitte, she was GDR team champion in 1976/77. In 1975 and 1976/77 she led the DTTV rankings.
In 1969 she was nominated for the world championship . Here she reached seventh place with the GDR team. In the singles she was eliminated in the first round against Asta Godrajtite (USSR). In doubles she was the most successful of all German women together with Asta Godrajtite (USSR). In the quarterfinals they lost to Hwan Hwan Choi / Jung Sook Choi from South Korea. Previously they had won against Patty Martinez / Wendy Hicks (USA), Buchholz / Prell and Toshiko Kowada / Yasuko Konno (Japan).
In 1976 she was awarded the DTTV Gold Badge of Honor for her achievements .
In 1980 she played in the association Aufbau Karl-Marx-Stadt, around 1988 with Chemie Leuna , in 2005 with LSV Mörtitz.
Private
Petra married Stephan in August 1977 and then performed under the name Petra Schmidt .
