Norbert Drescher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Norbert Drescher (born February 10, 1952 ) is a former table tennis player of the GDR. In the 1970s and early 1980s he was nine times GDR champion and twelve times team champion.

There are different specifications for the date of birth: DTS says February 10, 1952 , the anniversary book says May 10, 1952 .

successes

The left-handed Drescher joined the BSG Foreign Trade Association in Berlin . He achieved his first success in 1968 at the European Youth Championships, when he reached the final in mixed with Petra Stephan and there was defeated by the CSSR couple Jiri Turai / Ilona Voštová .

Drescher was one of the best players in the GDR in the 1960s. With BSG Außenhandel Berlin he won the GDR team championship every time from 1970 to 1982, with the exception of 1976. In 1976, 1978 and 1982 he was GDR individual champion. In doubles he won 1974 and 1977 with Manfred Ullrich , in mixed he won four titles: 1977 and 1978 with Petra Stephan (Schmidt) and 1979 and 1980 with Gabriele Geißler . He was second in doubles six times, five times with Manfred Ullrich and most recently in 1986 with Bernd Raue . In 1987 he was banned from the GDR championship because he had applied for an exit visa .

Due to the competitive sport decision of the GDR, table tennis was only very rarely represented internationally from 1970 onwards. Therefore, Drescher hardly had the opportunity to distinguish himself internationally.

In 1991 Drescher switched to Tennis Borussia Berlin . In the mid-1990s he played for the Berlin Marzahner Tischtennisverein (MTTV) Violetta , and later (at least from 2002) for Blau-Weiß Petershagen.

Private

Drescher is married to his wife Conny Zielinski, a former GDR top player.
