Gertrude Friedberg

Gertrude Tonkonogy Friedberg (born May 17, 1908 , † September 17, 1989 in New York ; born Gertrude Tonkonogy ) was an American writer and playwright .

After attending college , she first worked as a secretary in the office of a theater producer. In 1933 she wrote the play The Three-Cornered Moon , a screwball comedy that turned out to be a hit on Broadway and was made into a film shortly afterwards with Claudette Colbert as the leading actress. Town House , based on stories by the writer John Cheever , was also successful .

In the following years Gertrude Friedberg wrote plays, film scripts, short stories and a science fiction novel The Revolving Boy .

She died of cancer on September 17, 1989 in Manhattan at the age of 81 .
