Militia of Montana

Militia of Montana (abbreviated: MOM ) (German: Militia of Montana) is a right-wing extremist neo-militia that is considered the "mother of all militias" in the United States.

history

The Militia of Montana was founded in January / February 1994 by the two brothers John and David Trochmann and David's son Randy in Noxon , Montana . All three were previously members of the Aryan Nations from Idaho . The direct predecessor United Citizens of Justice was created in 1992 as a direct reaction to an illegal police operation in Ruby Ridge , in which the son and wife of the Suprematist Randy Weaver were shot. The goals there to draw attention to the fate of Weaver, however, later faded into the background and gave way to more general goals that formed the basis for the MOM. Robert Fletcher, another founding member, was a major influence in the early years of MOM.

The organization grew into one of the most influential militias in the 1990s. In contrast to other radical militias, the MOM refrained from planning attacks and did not offer any paramilitary training. Instead, the militia relied on providing information and support from other groups. This takes place both through appearances of the members in the context of arms fairs, as well as through a specially published catalog with articles for survivalists , which offers propaganda material in addition to a series of instructions on the struggle for survival in sound, image and writing. The organization also publishes the Taking Aim newsletter .

At the turn of the millennium, and especially due to the feared disaster around the year 2000 problem , the militia had the most popular attendance. However, after this supposed crisis was overcome without any problems, the militia lost its importance again. Randy Trochman also left the organization in March 2000. The militia is still active today, but only of minor importance. Most of their activities have shifted to the Internet.

ideology

The Militia of Montana is considered to be the "link between the radical and the extreme right". It is aimed at both patriots and Christian fundamentalists . Like other militias, the nation is the most important foundation for the MOM. The MOM positions itself as an opponent of a New World Order . In doing so, the militia focuses primarily on spreading conspiracy theories , especially those based on anti-Semitism and racism. The MOM rejects all constitutional amendments except the Bill of Rights .
