Francesco Moraglia (born May 25, 1953 in Genoa , Italy ) has been Patriarch of Venice since 2012 .

Life

Francesco Moraglia studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary in Genoa . On June 29, 1977 he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Genoa through Cardinal Giuseppe Siri . On January 31, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. to the Patriarch of Venice. The inauguration took place on March 25, 2012. As Patriarch of Venice, Moraglia can wear non-liturgical robes in red without being a cardinal. The red biretta has a pompom , as is customary for an (arch) bishop.
