Positions

abortion

Bagnasco strictly rejects abortion, especially through mifepristone .

Right to work

Bagnasco affirmed everyone's right to work. He also believes that the flexibility of the workforce should be limited in favor of employers.

Criticism of the negative attitude towards the recognition of same-sex couples

In 2007, Bagnasco came under criticism from some liberal media, from intellectuals ( Dario Fo , Dacia Maraini and others) as well as from politicians of the center-left government at the time, because he was planning a law in Italy to recognize civil partnerships of same-sex couples with the permission to incest and Compared to pedophilia . An anonymous letter to him with a death threat and a swastika was condemned as an intolerable act by Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi , who himself endorsed the proposed law. Archbishop Bagnasco, who has been under police protection since then, received another death threat on June 9, 2007. There is no more precise information about the sender of the threatening letters - an imprisoned terrorist of the Red Brigades was suspected to be related to it.

Silvio Berlusconi

Angelo Bagnasco, like Bishop Domenico Mogavero , publicly called on Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to resign in July 2009 because of his lifestyle; he warned of "men who have drowned in a delirium of their own greatness, who leave behind the illusion of omnipotence and who twist moral values".
