Domenico Mogavero (born March 31, 1947 in Castelbuono , Province of Palermo , Italy ) is Bishop of Mazara del Vallo .

Life

Domenico Mogavero was ordained a priest on July 12, 1970. In 1976 he received his doctorate in canon law from the Lateran University in Rome. From 1979 to 1985 he was the deputy rector of the seminary of Palermo . In 1987 he became Associate Professor of Canon Law at the Theological Faculty of Palermo. Since June 1999 Mogavero was canon of the cathedral chapter of his home diocese. In August of the same year Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Chaplain to His Holiness .

On February 22, 2007 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Mazara del Vallo . On March 24, 2007, he received his episcopal ordination in the Cathedral of Palermo from Camillo Cardinal Ruini . Co- consecrators were Salvatore Cardinal De Giorgi , Archbishop Emeritus of Palermo, and his successor Paolo Romeo . On Palm Sunday, April 1st 2007, Domenico Mogavero was inaugurated in the Cathedral of Mazara del Vallo . In the Sicilian Bishops' Conference Domenico Mogavero is delegate for the economic preservation of the church, cultural assets and cult buildings.

In July 2009, Bishop Mogavero, together with Angelo Cardinal Bagnasco, publicly called on Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to resign because of his lifestyle; he said Mr Berlusconi should "consider whether it is appropriate to step down in the country's interest" .

In June 2011 he was appointed Apostolic Visitator for the Diocese of Trapani after the local Bishop Francesco Miccichè was accused of being responsible for financial irregularities in the diocese.
