General Milivoje Petrović Blaznavac

Milivoje Petrović Blaznavac (born May 16, 1824 in Blaznava, † April 5, 1873 in Belgrade ) was a Serbian politician and officer.

Life

Blaznavac was possibly an illegitimate son of Miloš Obrenović , the founder of the ruling Obrenović dynasty . He joined the Serbian army early and was a major in 1849 . In 1850 he went to Vienna , then to France , where he studied at the war school and had a lesson in political economy in Paris , and then to Belgium , where he visited the arms and machine factories. In 1865 he became Minister of War under Prince Mihailo Obrenović , set up the Serbian military facilities on the French model and established a strong national militia. After Prince Mihailo Obrenović was murdered in 1868, Blaznavac played a leading role in having Milan II Obrenović , who was still underage, succeed to the Serbian throne. Blaznavac was a member of the Regency Council and became Prime Minister and Minister of War at the same time in August 1872 after the Prince had reached the age of majority. He was able to determine the Serbian politics significantly.
