Milka Ivić

Milka Ivić (born December 11, 1923 in Belgrade ; † March 7, 2011 , ibid) was Professor of Slavic Studies, Serbo-Croatian Studies and General Linguistics at the University of Novi Sad and head of the Institute for South Slavic Languages ​​at the Philosophical Faculty in Novi Sad .

Life

Ivić was a member of the Serbian, Norwegian, Saxon and Slovenian Academy of Sciences. In addition, she was a member of the international commission for the study of grammatical structures of the Slavic languages ​​for more than 20 years. Ivić was a reviewer and president of the Committee for the Dictionary of Serbo-Croatian Literary and Coloquial Language of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU). She published more than 400 scientific papers. Her book Ways of Linguistics had ten editions in Serbo-Croatian . This book has been translated into eleven languages.

She was married to the linguist Pavle Ivić . The mathematician Aleksandar Ivić emerged from this connection .
