The Mill Creek ( English for "Mühlbach") (the upper course is called Pine River ) is a short stream in North Kingstown in the US state of Rhode Island .
The river name is derived from a former flour mill on the lower reaches.
The body of water rises south of Devil's Foot Road and flows through residential areas first. East of Post Road ( US Highway 1 ) the Mill Creek / Pine River forms a larger wetland. Then the creek turns south and is partly routed underground through the industrial park of Quonset Point . There a small tributary from the Quonset Golf Course flows into Mill Creek, after which it leaves the industrial park towards the southwest. After crossing under Camp Avenue , Mill Creek forms an estuary that quickly widens in a southerly direction to Mill Cove , a small side bay of Narragansett Bay .
A study of the water quality in 1999 showed increased nitrogen values. The discharge during the observation period was between 159 l / s in April and 30.5 l / s in August.
