Millennium Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Millennium Records was a sub-label of Casablanca Record & FilmWorks , founded in Los Angeles in 1976 by Jimmy Ienner Sr., producer of the Raspberries . It was directed by Ienner and Irv Biegel. After Casablanca took over the label in 1977, Millennium was moved to New York in March; the offices were at 3 West 57th Street.

history

He was persuaded to sign Meco by Neil Bogart , President of Casablanca Record & FilmWorks . Meco was working on the recordings for the album Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk , and with the boom in the Star Wars films, Bogart had a clear view that the record would be a hit and a huge success would have been a good start for Millennium. He was not convinced of this idea, but he gave in.

Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk was released at the same time as the 20th Century Fox soundtrack album for the film, and the single Star Wars Theme / Cantina Band became the most commercially successful instrumental single to date.

Other artists on Millennium included The Godz, Brooklyn Dreams, Lori Lieberman , Don McLean and Joey Travolta , the brother of actor John Travolta .

In 1978 the collaboration with Casablanca ended, Jimmy Ienner terminated the contract and moved to RCA with Millennium . Through a contractual error, Ienner lost all of his artists to Casablanca because they were bound to Casablanca in the distribution contract. Irv Biegel stayed with Casablanca and later joined the founding team of Boardwalk Entertainment Corporation .
