The Miller River is a river in King County in the US state of Washington . Named after prospector John Miller, who was active in the 1890s, it is a tributary of the Skykomish River , which it reaches near the community of Miller River (which was called Berlin until World War I). The Miller River is approximately 3.5 miles (5.7 km) long from the confluence of its main source rivers, East Fork and West Fork. The Miller River Campground is just below the confluence.

Its discharge averages 9.2 m³ / s, a maximum of 134.2 m³ / s and a minimum of 0.5 m³ / s.

West Fork

The West Fork Miller River has its origins in the mountain range that separates it from the Taylor River . It flows from there northeastward and unites near the West Fork Campground with the East Fork. Its only officially named tributaries are Cleopatra Creek and Coney Creek . The Cleopatra Creek drains a basin just north of the source of the West Fork, while the Coney Creek outflow of the high mountain lake Coney Lake is. Just above its mouth, the West Fork falls over two small waterfalls , the Borderline Falls and the Immigration Falls . The access along West Fork Road is currently (2015) blocked by gates, washed out and overgrown; there are no known plans to make the road accessible again. Access with motorized vehicles and aircraft (car, motorcycle, helicopter, etc.) is prohibited in the higher regions due to the restrictions of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness .

  • Francis Lake Outlet Stream

East Fork

The 11.5 km long East Fork Miller River begins as a drain of Lake Dorothy . After leaving the lake, the river tumbles over a steep slope and makes its way to the bottom of Camp Robber Valley . The Florence Falls are close to the foot of the escarpment. Shortly after the waterfall, the river takes in Camp Robber Creek from the south, then Smith Creek from the west. Flowing northwards, several unnamed rivers reach the East Fork. The Great Falls Creek , which drains the tiny Tumwater Lake , flows into it from the west.

main power

From its source at the confluence of the East and West Fork, the Miller River flows northward to its confluence with the Skykomish River near the Miller River community. A major tributary is Happy Thought Creek , which drains small Cleveland Lake . The Mohawk Creek flows above the Happy Thought Creek and about 1/4 mile (400 meters) below the West Fork in the North Fork .
