Life

Miloslav Könnemann received his musical training at the Prague Conservatory . After his first job as court conductor of Prince August zu Hohenlohe-Öhringen and subsequent shorter engagements, Könnemann became conductor of the Austrian regiment No. 28 Benedek stationed in Rastatt in the early 1850s . Könnemann conducted the Orchester de la Conversation à Bade for the first time in 1857 in the neighboring spa town of Baden-Baden. In 1858 he gave up his military career and moved to Baden-Baden as a permanent orchestra conductor. Könnemann directed the symphony orchestra until his retirement in 1890 and worked with the greats of the international music scene. Already seriously ill, he gave his farewell performance on April 13, 1890. He died on November 28, 1890 in Baden-Baden. After a two-year interim he was followed in 1892 by Paul Hein. His son Arthur Könnemann (1861-1934) also worked as a composer and writer.

Könnemann left behind an extensive compositional work that was largely forgotten in Germany. In the Netherlands , his composition Der Fremersberg in particular has remained popular to this day.

Könnemann was the first chair master of the Masonic Lodge Badenia , founded in 1871 , a re-establishment of the Grand Lodge Zur Sonne that existed until 1933 .
