Milton (born February 16, 1977 , † July 4, 1999 ) was a horse of the show jumper John Whitaker . The gray horse won many international show jumping tournaments .
Life and Achievements
Milton was bought in 1977 as a foal by Caroline Bradley from breeder John Harding-Rolls. He was the son of the show jumping horse Marius and the mare Aston Answer (by Any Question), who appeared in international jumping competitions and which comes from the mare Pennywort. Milton was bred to be a pure show jumper.
Young Milton was trained by Caroline Bradley until her death in 1983. He was then ridden by Stephen Hadley for a short time until he came to the top international with John Whitaker.
He was most successful with John Whitaker between 1985 and 1994. In 1992 the couple took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The gray won many international awards and was the first horse outside the racing world to win more than £ 1 million in prize money.
During his entire career he had hardly any drops. The gelding was mostly the crowd's favorite and at the end of a course he often made a big jump in the air. In 1994 Milton retired after the London International Horse Show Olympia. He was voted the most popular horse in Great Britain by Horse & Hound magazine in 2008. Milton died on July 4, 1999. He was buried at Whitaker's Farm in Yorkshire .
