Mimi Karlsen

Mimi Karlsen (born January 23, 1957 in Maniitsoq ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Inuit Ataqatigiit ) and teacher .

Life

Mimi Karlsen attended school in Maniitsoq from 1964 to 1972. After a year abroad in Klemensker , she attended the Atuarfik Kilaaseeraq secondary school in Maniitsoq from 1973 to 1975 . She then trained to be a sports teacher at the sports university there in Gerlev . From 1976 to 1981 she was also a physical education teacher in Nuuk, but at the same time trained as a teacher at Ilinniarfissuaq . In 1981 she taught sports to girls at Najugaqarfik Elisibannguaq . In 1984 she became a counseling teacher at Kuuttartup Atuarfia in Maniitsoq. In 1987 she became a teacher at Atuarfik Kilaaseeraq , where she stayed almost continuously until 2009. In addition, she was involved in the Greenland Red Cross from 2002 to 2009, from 2006 to 2008 as vice chairman. She is married to the skipper Peter Lyberth and has four grown children.

Mimi Karlsen was the last deputy mayor of Maniitsoq from 2005 to 2008 . Since 2008 she has been a member of the Qeqqata Communia Council . She was elected to the Inatsisartut for the first time in 2009 and directly became Minister for Culture, Education, Church and Research. In 2011 the cabinet was reorganized and she became Minister for Family, Culture and Equality. She was re-elected to parliament in 2013, as well as in 2014 and 2018.
