Martin Sensmeier

Martin Sensmeier (born June 27, 1985 in Anchorage , Alaska ) is an American actor and model . He comes from the indigenous people of the Tlingit and Koyukon .

life and career

Martin Sensmeier was born in Anchorage, Alaska, as the son of Ray and Eva Sensmeier and later grew up in Yakutat . His father comes from the Tlingit ethnic group , his mother comes from the Koyukon - Athabascans from Ruby on the banks of the Yukon River .

Even at school he wanted to become an actor. First, however, he worked for a while as a welder , for example for Doyon Drilling . In his free time, he kept flying to Los Angeles , where he took modeling jobs and took acting classes. He finally moved to Los Angeles in 2007.

He took on his first acting role in 2014 in the short film K'ina Kil: The Slaver's Son . This was followed by the role of Mohawk in the series Salem . In 2016, Sensmeier was Red Harvest as one of the eponymous protagonists of the film The Magnificent Seven , a new edition of the 1960 classic . He starred alongside greats like Denzel Washington , Ethan Hawke , Chris Pratt and Vincent D'Onofrio . 2017 followed as Chip Hanson a supporting role in the film Wind River . The films Perfect and the science fiction film Encounter followed in 2018 .

In 2016, Sensmeier was not shown in the pilot episode of the Westworld series in the role of an indigenous Ghost Nation warrior host. For the second season, the role was expanded under the name Wanahton .

In 2020 he took over the role of Chief Eddy in the original English version of the video game Tell Me Why by Dontnod Entertainment . The game is set in Alaska and, like Sensmeier himself, the character belongs to the indigenous people of the Tlingit.

Private

He's been in a relationship with singer Kahara Hodges , a Navajo , since 2016 . His roots mean a lot to Sensmeier, he is a member of the Native Wellness Institute and he is hoping for greater acceptance by Native American descendants in the film business.
