history

Dontnod was founded jointly by Hervé Bonin, Aleksi Briclot, Alain Damasio, Oskar Guilbert and Jean-Maxime Moris as well as other former Ubisoft , Electronic Arts and Criterion Games employees on June 2, 2008.

The first published game, Remember Me , received positive to mediocre ratings from IGN and Metacritic, among others, after it went on sale .

On January 31, 2014, French media reported that Dontnod had filed for bankruptcy due to poor sales from Remember Me . Dontnod confirmed the reports and said they were in the process of restructuring. This was followed shortly afterwards by the announcement that with the help of public funding under the project name What If? start a new development project.

On June 5, 2014, Dontnod announced that they were working with Square Enix on a new game for digital distribution, which was released in 2015 under the name Life Is Strange . It later became known that What If? was the project name for the development of Life Is Strange .

From November 2014, the studio then worked on his third title Vampyr , which was released in the summer of 2018. In addition, a previously unannounced project is under development.

The sales success of Life Is Strange increased the awareness of Dontnod Entertainment in the field of video games and also increased its own reputation vis-à-vis other manufacturers and publishers in the industry. After the success of Life Is Strange , Dontnod was no longer (as before) confronted with the problem of looking for a large publisher. Instead, the studio has since received offers and inquiries from publishers without having to do anything.

In April 2016, co-founder and managing director Oskar Guilbert stated that previous plans to develop the studio into a large (triple-A) developer had been put on hold and that they saw themselves more in the development of indie games.

On May 18, 2017, Dontnod announced that it was working on a second part of Life Is Strange . The first of five episodes of Life Is Strange 2 was released on September 27, 2018.

On June 10, 2018, Dontnod Entertainment announced the game The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit at Microsoft's E3 press conference , which is a spin-off from Life Is Strange and an introduction to the universe of Life Is Strange 2 . A special feature of Captain Spirit is that, unlike the previous games, it will not be published in episode format and it will also be free.
