The King Mindaugas Bridge ( lit. Karaliaus Mindaugo tiltas ) is a road bridge over the Neris in the center of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . The building, built in 2003 and named after the Lithuanian King Mindaugas , connects the Žirmūnai district with the center and old town of Vilnius . The bridge was inaugurated on July 6, 2003 by Mayor Artūras Zuokas and Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas in the presence of 10,000 spectators. The driving width is 11.25 meters. It was built by Akcinė bendrovė "Tilsta" company and subcontractors such as "Viadukas" and " Kauno tiltai ". The costs amounted to 17 million litas (5 million euros). On July 2, 2003, tests of the construction were carried out using 18 KAMAZ trucks loaded with sand (a total of 315 tons).
