Mindreaper is a German metal band from Vogelsberg , which was founded in 2001.

history

When Sebastian Rehbein, the two guitarists Felix Balser and Constantin Fink, together with drummer Sven Fölsing, founded the band Mindreaper in 2001 in Herbstein, Upper Hesse , all four were still going to school. Shortly after the founding, Felix and Sven were replaced by Gunter Weppler on guitar and Alexander Fink on drums. At first the band tried to establish a female voice in their sound with the singer Ramona Planz. Since this did not develop in the long term in the way the band wanted, Ramona got out after a show in the opening act for Vader .

Especially the position on bass, which was occupied for a time by Witchburner co-founder Tankred Best and then by Mathias Ziegenhein, remained vacant over and over again. After recording the demo Fatal Melodies in 2006 and appearing in the opening act for Tankard and Hatesphere , the band almost broke up in mid-2007. Only the front man Sebastian and the guitarist Gunter were still part of the party. The newly completed line-up with Philip Hartmann on guitar, Manuel Roth on bass and Malte Kinzel on drums was available from summer 2008. With this line-up, the EP Absolute Zero , released in 2009, was created . By participating in a voting, Mindreaper won an appearance on the main stage of the Metalfest Open Air Germany 2010 in Dessau.

In 2011 the band wanted to start recording their first full-length album. However, before a sound was recorded, Philip Hartmann left Mindreaper for personal reasons and drummer Malte also left the band during the recording. Mindreaper finished the recordings for Human Edge (... To The Abyss) in spite of all this and hired producer Andy Classen from Stage One Studio for the final mastering , who also had albums from Die Apokalyptischen Reiter , Tankard and Legion of the Damned has produced. Before the release in April 2012, the lineup was completed again with Manuel Nozulak as the new drummer. Again the band prevailed against numerous other bands in a voting at the Metalfest Open Air Germany and also played at the festival in Dessau in 2012. Also in the following year some appearances were completed, among others at the Ragnarock Open Air. In May 2013 Marcel Bangert was accepted as a permanent second guitarist in the band. Manuel Roth left the band in August of that year due to lack of time. After a few months with four, Bahram Mars took over bass from November 2013.

In 2014 things got a little quieter again in favor of songwriting, although some gigs were made, such as B. on the Break your Neck No.7 in Wolfsburg or in the Moshpit Flörsheim. In October 2014 there was another change on bass, which has since been taken over by Christian "Ens" Schoenke.

In 2015, the songwriting bore its first fruits in the form of a demo, which was recorded for promotional purposes in order to be able to present the first hearing impressions for the upcoming second album. Before that, despite the ongoing songwriting phase, some gigs were made; among others at MISE Open Air and Schwalm Metal Open Air, where some of the new songs could already be performed live.

In July 2016, the Graveyard Classics Tour was the opening act for Six Feet Under through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With the appearance at the Chaostraum Open Air the band says goodbye to guitarist Gunter "Gynni" Weppler, who is leaving the band after 14 years of creative work due to musical differences. Mindreaper are now playing in the classic four-person line-up again.

style

Musically, the band moves in the intersection between Thrash and Death Metal with many traditional and melodic influences. Lyrically, human weaknesses and behavior are in the foreground, which are viewed from different perspectives, whereby there is always a link to the band name.
