The Mineralölverbundleitung GmbH Schwedt (MVL) is a shareholder companies of the chemical industry with headquarters in the Brandenburg town of Schwedt on the Oder . Its business purpose is the transport, handling and storage of oil via pipelines . The company's shareholders are TOTAL Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH (TRM) with a share of 55% and PCK Raffinerie GmbH Schwedt with 45%.

Companies

The company was founded in 1964 as Kombinat Erdölververarbeitungwerk (EVW) and today supplies the oil refineries of Total Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH in Spergau and PCK Raffinerie GmbH in Schwedt via an underground pipeline system of approx. 730 km . Since 1990 around 1.6 billion euros have been invested in modernizing the facilities.

Approx. 860 million tons of Russian crude oil have been delivered to the company since the friendship pipeline was opened in 1965 . During the GDR era, the company employed up to 700 people. Through years of downsizing, these have been reduced to currently 65 employees.

The company, which is one of the most important in the new federal states , has a tank farm in Schwedt, Heinersdorf district, for stockpiling . Every fifth liter of fuel in Germany comes from the refineries supplied by the company.

logistics

The MVL operates the pipelines Friendship 1 and 2 from the Polish border height Lunow , the stub Friendship 3, as well as the pipelines Spergau 1 and 2. It is still owner of the pipelines. The petroleum of friendship 1 and 2 can be divided between the MVL and the PCK refinery in a valve station near the MVL as required. From this station the branch line friendship 3 and friendship 2 continue to the MVL. The friendship 1 continues its way into the PCK refinery. From this valve station onwards, PCK is the owner, but not the operator of friendship 1. The crude oil arriving at the MVL is temporarily stored in ten 30,000 m³ tanks. There it can be mixed with other types of crude oil through relocations between the tanks and ultimately pumped on to the TRM via Spergau 1 and / or 2.

Due to the two separate pipelines to Spergau near Leuna , a so-called type of operation is possible. This means that different types of crude oil can be transported independently of one another via both lines to the TOTAL Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland / TRM GmbH there. In addition, repairs that require a pipeline to be shut down are possible without running into supply bottlenecks.

Technical data of the pipelines operated by MVL

pipeline Length (in km) Diameter (in mm) Maximum pressure (in bar) Volume (in m³)
Friendship 1 26.7 500 25th 6510
Friendship 2 24.5 800 25th 12355
Friendship 3 2.2 500 25th -
Spergau 1 336.3 500 64 69088
Spergau 2 338.0 700 64 129346

Another circulation line with a length of 6.0 km and a diameter of 400 mm runs between the PCK refinery and the Schwedt mineral oil network. PCK is the owner and operator of this pipeline. It is used for oil transports between the PCK refinery and the oil port and tank farm in Rostock. The reason for this is that the Rostock – Schwedt oil pipeline ends on the MVL site for historical reasons. For these transports, PCK Raffinerie GmbH sometimes has to use MVL tanks. In addition, this circulation line can be used to relocate from the MVL tank farm to the PCK tank farm.
