Minnie Pwerle
Minnie Pwerle (* 1920 , Utopia , 200 km northeast of Alice Springs ; † March 18, 2006 ) was an Australian Aboriginal painter from the Anmatyerre and Alyawarre tribe .
Life
She was one of eight and the mother of seven children she cared for and taught Aboriginal traditions. One of her daughters, Barbara Weir , also became an artist.

She has been working with batik since the 1980s and switched to painting on canvas with acrylic paints in 1999 when she was almost 80 years old. She used traditional patterns to paint the dream time stories of her people, the so-called Awelye Atnwengerrp Dreamings (women's ceremonies ); further topics were bush melon and bush orange . One of her works received the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2001. This recognized her special way of painting.
Her pictures have been shown in numerous museums and exhibitions in Australia. Collections of her are in the Art Gallery of New South Wales , Art Gallery of South Australia , National Gallery of Victoria and the Queensland Art Gallery.
