Minotaur Shock

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minotaur Shock (real name David Edwards ) is an English musician .

Career

In 2000, the Bristol- born Edwards began releasing the first EPs with electronic music on the Melodic label , which were highly praised by the British trade press and referred to as Folktronica . Edwards mixed traditional instruments such as flute , clarinet and guitar along with the genre-typical electronica . In 2001 the debut album Chiff-Chaffs & Willow Warblers was released , which reflected IDM's move towards a more organic sound. The following year Edwards brought out another EP and a compilation of older EPs, rather he acted as a drummer in the band Bronze Age Fox . In 2005 his second regular studio album Maritime was released on the 4AD label, which once again attracted attention in the specialist press. Edwards also worked as a remixer for bands such as Bloc Party and Badly Drawn Boy before Minotaur Shock released their third album in 2008 with Amateur Dramatics . This was initially only available as a download from 4AD before it was released as a physical album on the Audio Dregs label in December 2008 .

Style and reception

DJ Shadow , Aphex Twin and the synth-pop of the 80s are often mentioned as influences on the music of Minotaur Shock . The Folktronica elements that shaped his beginnings were replaced by instrumental pop, primarily with Maritime, a concept album on the theme of the sea. The unusual mix of hornpipe and synthesizer sounds was also praised. Amateur Dramatics, on the other hand, is seen as a departure from the playfulness of its predecessor and was assessed as darker and more oriented towards classical composition patterns. This change was particularly characterized by the title This Plane Is Going To Fall , composed with Anna-Lynne Williams and sung by her .
