Me Jafar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mir Jafar Ali Khan Bahadur (* 1691 ; † February 5, 1765 ) was the first Nawab of Bengal who was under the influence of the British East India Company . He ruled from 1757 to 1760 and from 1763 to 1765.

In the Battle of Plassey he supported the British troops under the leadership of Robert Clive by making a pact with them and opposing the forces of the Nawab of Bengal Siraj-ud-Daula with his soldiers. As a reward, he was used by the British as a nawab after the Battle of Plassey.

Mir Jafar soon resisted the tough economic conditions imposed by the British East India Company and forged a pact with the Dutch against the British. He was deposed after the battle of Chinsurah . In 1763 he regained his trust and was a Nawab until his death in 1765. The word mirjafar was used as a synonym for "traitor" in India.

Jafar is portrayed by Cesar Romero in the 1935 film Battle for India .
