Mircea Angelescu

Mircea Angelescu ( 1938 - October 6, 2009 ) was a Romanian football official .

Career

The full-time civil engineer and university professor Angelescu directed the fortunes of the Romanian football association from the mid-1960s . First he was vice-president until 1968, then president of the association. In 1975 he moved back to the second tier as Vice President until 1978. In 1981 he returned to the board as Vice President of the organization, and in 1986 he took over the chairmanship again, which he held until the Romanian Revolution in 1989 .

In 1990 Angelescu was briefly sports minister under President Ion Iliescu , and between 1992 and 1996 he was later founding chairman of the newly created Romanian league association .

Angelescu was awarded the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv", 2nd class in 2004 and 1st class in 2008.
