Miriam Cani (born May 30, 1985 in Elbasan , Albania ) is a German singer and TV presenter with Albanian roots. She was a member of the pop - girl group Preluders .

Life

At the age of five she emigrated to Heidelberg , Germany, with her parents and her younger brother Silvi . There she went to school, which she dropped out after the tenth grade due to participation in the German casting show Popstars . In her spare time she took singing lessons and played theater . Cani first experienced moderation in 1993 in the German show Interaktiv . At the age of 15 she won a workshop at the Stage School Hamburg that specialized in musicals .

She lived in Heidelberg until 2005 and later moved to Munich with her family . She has lived in the Albanian capital Tirana since 2011 .

Career

In 2003 Cani took part in the German talent show Popstars and became a member of the girl group Preluders , which lost to the boy group Overground in the final . Her song Losing my religion was sold more than 680,000 times in the first week. Their first album Girls in the House rose to number two in the German charts in the first week and after the band had sold over 180,000 copies, they started a major tour through Germany , Austria and Switzerland . In 2005 the band won the Jetix Kids Award with more than one million votes. In the same year the band signed a contract with the well-known hair cosmetics brand Schwarzkopf and released the promotional song Color your life .

After the band broke up in 2006, she landed the lead role in the musical Chicago .

In December 2009 Cani hosted the traditional program Festivali i Këngës in Tirana , the national preliminary competition for the Eurovision Song Contest . The next year she herself took part in this singing festival with the singer Alban Skënderaj with the song Ende ka Shpresë ( German : 'There is still hope'), but they could not prevail against Aurela Gaçe and took second place.

From October 2011 to January 2013 she sat for two seasons as a juror in the Albanian version of The Voice .

Personal

Cani has been married to Albanian singer Alban Skenderaj since May 2019 . The couple have a daughter named Amelia.
