Mirjam Tally

Mirjam Tally (born November 28, 1976 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian composer.

life and work

Mirjam Tally graduated from Lepo Sumera at the Estonian Music Academy in Tallinn in 2000 . From 1998 to 2004 Tally was a freelance presenter for the public broadcaster Klassikaraadio and from 2003 to 2006 editor of the Estonian music magazine Muusika . Mirjam Tallinn has lived and worked in Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland since autumn 2006 .

Mirjam Tally's compositions often mix chamber music with electronic music. She uses instruments from Nordic folk music (such as the Estonian Kannel ) as well as exotic instruments (such as the didgeridoo or the tanpura ). Occasionally, sources of inspiration are texts by Estonian poets such as Hasso Krull , Elo Viiding and Indrek Hirv .

Mirjam Tally has been a member of the Estonian Composers 'Union since 2000 and of the Swedish Composers' Union (FST) since 2007.

Award

In 2009 Mirjam Tally received the annual prize for sound art from the Estonian state foundation Eesti Kultuurkapital .
