Mirko Wolter (born June 3, 1976 in Güstrow ) is a former German speedway driver .

Career

As a ten-year-old student, he was already training on a 70 cm 3 machine on the local speedway track in Güstrow during the GDR era , before he had his first official speedway race in 1989 in the Motodrom Halbemond near Norden at the age of 13, before the Wall came down Speedway Bundesliga drove. Equipped with a day B license, he drove against drivers like Tom Dunker and André Pollehn . It was then that his talent was recognized. He started in the international license class in 1992 as a 16-year-old.

Wolter became German Junior Champion in 1992 and 1993 and won the German Speedway Championship in 1999, 2002 and 2004. He was part of the German national speedway team for several years and was its captain in 2004. In 2004 he reached 5th place at the European Speedway Pairs Championship. In the British league he started for the Sheffield Tigers and for Trelawny. His biggest international race was probably his appearance as a wildcard driver at the Speedway World Championship Grand Prix of Germany on May 5, 2001 in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin , where Wolter represented the German colors alongside his compatriot Robert Barth . On October 16, 2004 Wolter gave his farewell race in Güstrow .

Personal

Wolter finished his professional training as a gas and water plumber after his school days and although he already competed in professional races in the British league. Today Wolter devotes himself to his hobby football .
