Miroslav Žbirka (born October 21, 1952 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ), nicknamed Miro or Meky , is a Slovak pop singer and composer . He sings in English, Slovak and Czech.

Life

Miroslav Žbirka is the third son of the English mother Ruth Gale and the Slovak father Šimon Žbirka and has two older brothers, Anton and Jason.

He began his music career as a co-founder of the Slovak pop band Modus in 1967, which initially played cover versions of contemporary hits and later produced their own music. Together with Marika Gombitová and Janko Lehotský , he won the Bratislavská lýra gold competition in 1977 for the song Úsmev . In 1981 he founded the band Limit with Ladislav Lučenič , with whom he began his successful solo career, which continues to this day.

In 1982, Žbirka became the first Slovak interpreter to win the Czechoslovakian music competition Zlatý slavík and received first prize for the song Love Song (export version of the song V slepých uličkách ) and a prize from the broadcaster Ö3 at an international music festival in Villach, Austria .

Private

In her first marriage to Helga, Žbirka had a daughter, Denisa. In 1988 Žbirka married the Czech Kateřina and they have two children, Linda and David. He lives in Prague .
