Miroslav Florian
Miroslav Florian (born May 10, 1931 in Kutná Hora ; † May 10, 1996 in Prague ) was a Czech poet and translator.
Life
He comes from Kutná Hora, where he graduated from high school in 1950. He then studied librarianship at Charles University . 1952–1954 he did his military service, came to the magazine Československý voják (Czechoslovak Soldier), became editor of the newspaper and moved to Prague after completing his military service. From 1955 he worked for the Czechoslovak Radio and from 1958 to 1977 in the editorial department of the Československý spisovatel publishing house (Czechoslovakian writer). In 1976 he was elected a member of the Czech National Council.
Works
In the 1950s he was a representative of everyday poetry. In later years he stood up for civic engagement and for the effort to implement basic ethical norms of the time. He became an advocate of the political line of the then President Gustáv Husák .
Awards
He received several awards. Honored artist in 1975, national artist in 1982, winner of the Klement Gottwald State Prize in 1973, and National Prize of the Czech Republic in 1985. He was also a long-time member of the Committee of the Association of Czech Writers.
