Miroslav Wiecek

Miroslav Wiecek (born November 4, 1931 in Ostrava , † July 12, 1997 ) was a Czech football player . He scored 174 goals in 325 first division games.

Player career

Miroslav Wiecek played for Baník Ostrava since his youth , and in the 1947/48 season the striker made his first appearances in the club's first division team. He quickly developed into a reliable goalscorer, in 1952 Wiecek was the top scorer in the league with 20 goals. On October 4, 1953 Wiecek made his debut in the dress of the Czechoslovak national team , which was defeated by Hungary 1: 5 on that day . It should be Wiecek's only international match.

In 1956 he was again the best scorer with 15 goals. He wanted to move to Slavia Prague , but the transfer was prevented by communist functionaries. Two more times, in 1958 and 1959, Wiecek secured the top scorer cannon. When he moved to local rivals VŽKG Vítkovice in 1964 , Wiecek had scored 174 goals for Baník Ostrava in 325 first division games, making him the most successful striker of the post-war period.

Wiecek let his career fade away from 1968 to 1970 as a player-coach at the lower-class club Tatra Kopřivnice.

Coaching career

From 1970 to 1973 Miroslav Wiecek coached the B team from Baník Ostrava in the 3rd division. Then he was a coach at NHKG Ostrava in the 2nd division, but the team rose and was only fourth in Group B of the 3rd division the following year. In the 1975/76 season he was assistant coach at TJ TŽ Třinec , from 1976 to 1982 he coached VOKD Poruba, first in the third, thanks to a reorganization in 1981/82 in the second division. From 1982 to 1983 Wiecek was the coach of the North Yemeni national soccer team .
