Misanthropy Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Misanthropy Records was a Suffolk , England based record company founded in 1993 to release the Burzum albums. In 1995 other bands were added until the label broke up after 21 releases.

History of origin

After Varg Vikernes' arrest , no record company dared to release the albums from his Burzum project. After several unsuccessful attempts to release the albums from prison, Tiziana "Diamanda" Stupia (who later became a pagan priestess) took over this task. For this purpose she founded the label Misanthropy Records. Following the release of the second and third plant Det som engang var (1993) and Hvis lyset tar oss (1994) 1995 appeared Burzum / Aske that most title of the debut album Burzum together with those of Aske - EP , both previously of Deathlike Silence Productions had been released.

In 1995 the label also opened to other bands. The fourth release was the debut album HEart of the Ages by In the Woods… . Other bands were Fleurety , Monumentum and Ved Buens Ende . In 1996, Filosofem , the last Black Metal release by Vikernes, appeared before Vikernes turned to ambient with Dauði Baldrs (1997) and Hliðskjálf (1999) . In 1997 the release of the EP Wolf's Lair Abyss turned into a scandal, as the band Mayhem had signed "Euronymous" Aarseth on the label of the killer of their former band leader and guitarist Øystein .

With New Dark Age by Solstice , the label's first Doom Metal release appeared in 1998 , and number 15 was a label sampler called Presumed Guilty . The last release was the Hliðskjálf album by Burzum in 1999 .

In the course of the label activity, the sub-labels Elfenblut, Ancient Lore Creations and Heroine were founded, which served other musical genres. Elf Blood published especially bands that post-industrial and neoclassical played as the band Blood Axis of Michael Moynihan and Hagalaz 'Runedance . Ancient Lore Creations only published Aspera hiems symfonia by Arcturus and Those Who Caress the Pale by Ved Buens Ende. Under Heroine only the album Cold Heaven and the MCD Deggael of the Finnish death rock band Babylon Whores were released.
