Madder Mortem , founded in 1993 under the name Mystery Tribe , is a Norwegian progressive metal band.
Band history
As a mystery tribe , they recorded the Demo Days in Sorrow in 1993 . A little later they changed their name to Madder Mortem . Their first release under this name was the Misty Sleep EP in 1997. The official debut album Mercury was released in 1999 on the English label Misanthropy Records , which disbanded a short time later, so that the band lost both label and record deal. The departure of three band members in the same year represented another setback.
After Madder Mortem had re-formed, the band recorded another demo in 2000, which earned them a record deal with Century Media . There the second album All Flesh Is Grass was released in 2001 , on which the band struck a much harder and more aggressive style of music.
After a European tour together with Tristania , Rotting Christ and Vintersorg in September / October 2001, the band began to work on a new album, which was finally released in October 2002 under the name Deadlands . In February / March 2003 Madder Mortem supported Opeth on their Deliverance tour across Europe. This was followed by appearances at several festivals, including the Inferno Metal Festival Norway in Oslo 2003.
In 2006, while a new album was being recorded, the band changed their label and have been under contract with Peaceville Records ever since , where their fourth album Desiderata was released that same year .
After a longer creative break, the new album Eight Ways was released on May 18, 2009 .
In January 2015 the band announced that they are no longer working with Peaceville Records and are currently looking for a new label to release their already recorded sixth studio album later this year.
