Mission Vieille-Catholique en France

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mission Vieille-Catholique en France ( Old Catholic Mission in France ) has parishes in Paris , Alsace and a few other places in France. The parish of Dionysius of Paris at St. Denis submitted to the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Utrecht in 1893 . At that time it had around 300 members. After severe setbacks in the 1940s, the community was rebuilt from 1950 onwards.

A small Old Catholic parish had existed in Strasbourg since 1909 , which was looked after from Offenburg , but was dissolved after the First World War . In 1984 the old Catholic parish was re-established in Alsace. Together with the other parishes in France, it is under the jurisdiction of the International Bishops' Conference of the Utrecht Union of Old Catholic Churches , whose delegate is Archbishop Joris Vercammen .

According to Alexandre Nevejans , it had around 100–150 members in 2008.

In the autumn of 2006, the Prieuré du Bon Pasteur in Prisches in northern France sought acceptance into the Old Catholic Mission. The International Bishops' Conference agreed to define the modalities for a common path with this community. The community was accepted on November 28, 2010, and has around 300 members.
