The Missionarian Secular Carmel ( en . : Secular Missionary Carmel; it . : Carmelo Missionario Seculare, abbreviation: CMS ; es . : Carmelo Missionero Seglar) is an international association of believers . The lay Association was founded in 1988 in Medellin ( Colombia established) and 1996 by the Holy See recognized. The CMS is connected to the Carmelites and is represented in 12 countries worldwide, it has around 500 members.

history

As a young woman, Morelia Suárez Ortiz (* 1945) was impressed by the spirituality of the Carmelites and the missionary spirit of Francisco Palau y Quer (1811–1872). The religious laywoman lived in the Colombian city of Medellín, which belonged to the order province of the "Carmelites of the Sacred Heart". In 1987 she addressed the request to found a lay association to the religious curia and received through the XVI. Chapter the commitment. On March 20, 1996, the Association was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an International Association of Believers under Papal Law and it was included in the register .

Self-image

The members gathered in the CMS are dedicated to lay missionary work. It is their intention to promote lay work in the Church and to support missionary work. When dealing with other people, the focus is on respect and mutual understanding. The members live in their active lay apostolate in groups or as individuals and strive to proclaim the good news in the midst of the world.

Organization and dissemination

The smallest organizational unit forms the group, several groups are coordinated by a management committee. The management committee consists of a coordinator, a secretary, a treasurer and two assessors . At the state level, the animators' committee is the governing body. The international leadership is the responsibility of the Superior General of the Missionary Carmelites. The CMS has around 500 members in twelve countries, these are spread across Africa with two, Asia with three, Europe with one, North America with three and South America with three countries, the headquarters are in Rome .
