Mitislaw der Moderne is an operetta in one act by the composer Franz Lehár and the librettists Fritz Grünbaum and Robert Bodanzky . The first performance took place on January 7, 1907 in the cabaret Hölle in the basement of the Theater an der Wien .

Remarks

Prince Mitislaw lives the life of a connoisseur in his homeland, Gasoline. Traditions, morals and customs are ignored. The plot revolves around this scenario, which essentially parodies the figure of Danilo from The Merry Widow . Of course, the grisettes already known from the Merry Widow should not be missing. The work also criticizes the (Viennese) society at the time the work was created.

The one-act operetta was the second of four short stage works by Lehár that premiered in the basement of the Theater an der Wien , the so-called cabaret hell . The series of works listed there began in 1906 with the children's operetta Peter and Paul Reisen im Schlaraffenland . In 1907, the work discussed here, Mitislaw der Moderne, followed . In 1912 the operetta Rosenstock and Edelweiss followed . This series ended with the Singspiel Spring in 1922. Of these four short operettas, the last one had the greatest success.

Music numbers

The operetta contains the following musical numbers:

  • overture
  • who's coming? who's coming?
  • Heil, Heil, Heil, your Excellency

  • The woman wants to succeed with men
