The WL4üm-41a were two one-and-a-half- story sleeping cars made for Mitropa in 1941 .

history

From 1937, the Wegmann & Co. wagon factory in Kassel developed a type of sleeping car with single-bed cabins. The vehicles with the numbers 20001 and 20002 were delivered in April 1941. When designing the car, it was not yet possible to consistently implement all the principles of lightweight construction. Due to the Second World War , the test program could not be fully implemented. After the end of the war, No. 20001 came to the West German sleeping car and dining car company after a refurbishment in Kassel . The other car was refurbished in Gotha and was used by Mitropa in the GDR .

Constructive features

The 26 meter long vehicles had a welded frame . Aprons were attached to the long beams. The draw gear was continuous and of the reinforced design. A deflection of 60 mm was necessary due to the low-lying compartments . The friction buffers were of the Uerdingen type with bevelled and flattened buffer plates.

The special design bogies had a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The wheelsets were sprung four times and ran in roller bearings. The cars had a Kunze-Knorr brake and a non-automatic Henry brake . The hand brakes were on the ends of the car.

The car body was made in a welded construction. The front walls were designed to be streamlined. The window division of the side wall on the side of the compartment was different. The carriages had 12 second class single compartments, which were nested. The upper compartments were accessible via three and the lower ones via one step. The four compartments of the 1st class were arranged low in the middle of the car. Each compartment had its own washing facility. The walls were made of cherry wood and the 1st class seats were red and the 2nd class seats were blue. The walls of the side corridor were covered with elm and the ceiling with sycamore . A total of 20 seats were available. The 1st class compartments could be used as 2nd class compartments by two people . Across the entire width of the compartment there was a corresponding seat that was converted into the sleeping area.

The hot water heating worked with automatic electrically controlled valves. The passenger could choose three levels corresponding to the temperatures 14 ° C, 19 ° C and 23 ° C. The wagons had a pressure ventilation system. No. 20001 also had ice cooling.

The lighting was done with incandescent lamps. The energy supply was provided by two transverse field generators GEz (type RZG 506). The lighting network had a power consumption of 2100 W and the power plant of 5100 W.
