The type MM 14 is a Liberty replacement ship type , which was developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at the end of the 1960s as a replacement for the then aging fleet of Liberty freighters and Victory ships .
details
In the second half of the 1960s, various types of ships were offered around the world as replacements for the Liberty and Victory standard freighters still in service, as well as some other cargo ships built during the Second World War, in the world merchant fleet at that time, which were on intermediate decks with their own loading gear and approx. 14,000 tons load-bearing capacity oriented. Series such as SD-14 , Freedom and German Liberty were particularly successful .
The MM 14 ship type was developed by Mitsubishi in the late 1960s as one of three slightly different Liberty replacement ship types (the other two were the Commonwealth type and the Seatramp type ).
The MM-14 ships had four holds with a volume of 23,281 m³ (bulk cargo) and 20,257 m³ (general cargo). All cargo holds were located in front of the superstructures arranged completely aft, the rear three had an intermediate deck. Seven hatches and ten loading booms as well as a crane as its own loading gear were available on the ships for cargo handling.
The first two ships of the type were delivered to shipping companies in Lausanne in 1969 .
