The end tips of the water leaves are blunt in front. Its tip is attached and on the edge there are 4 to 12 eyelash teeth barely protruding from the leaf margin on each side. There are never any trapping bubbles on the water leaves.

The flowering period is between July and August. The crown is lemon yellow. The spur is 7 to 12 millimeters long, walnut and thus about as long as the lower lip.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 44.

Occurrence

The middle water hose is chalky and grows in Germany in oligo- to moderately eutrophic waters such as peat cuttings, bog gullies and ponds, and ditches. In Central Europe it is a character species of the Utricularion association. Its distribution area includes the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. The species occurs scattered in southern Bavaria and rarely in central and northern Bavaria, south-east Baden-Württemberg, north-east Saxony, east Brandenburg, south-east and north-west Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in Lower Saxony near Meißendorf. This species has become extinct in Hesse, Schleswig-Holstein and the south of Rhineland-Palatinate.
